Privacy

Nitramine runs binarybacktrace.com. This page says what the site records when you visit, what stays in your browser, where the records are kept, who sees them and how you can have them deleted.

What a visit records

When you read a page, your browser sends one short note to binarybacktrace.com: the address of the page, the page you came from, the size of your screen, your browser's user agent and whether the browser looks automated. The server adds your IP address and the time.

The note leaves only after you scroll, touch the screen, move the pointer or press a key, or after the page has been open for five seconds, so that a program that loads the page and leaves is not counted as a reader.

Visits from search engines and other known crawlers are recorded by the server itself, with the page, the crawler's IP address, its user agent and the time.

Nitramine uses these records to see which pages and tools people use and where they come from, and to tell people from bots. The analytics code is Nitramine's own; no analytics service is involved.

Where it is kept

The records sit in a database on Nitramine's own server, rented from Hetzner in Germany. Nobody else gets them. They are not deleted automatically yet. To have the records of your visits deleted, write to the address below and name the day of your visit and your IP address.

The first note sets one cookie, bbt_sid. It holds a random number and nothing else, so that the pages you read count as one visit. Scripts cannot read it, it is only sent to binarybacktrace.com and it expires after a year.

What stays in your browser

The tools read the files you open inside your browser. No file you open is uploaded. Several tools keep the files you opened in your browser's private file storage, so that they are still there after a reload.

Your browser's local storage remembers your choice of the light or the dark theme and the settings of some tools: bookmarks, struct definitions, the list of opened binaries and disks, and the sizes of panels. When one tool hands a file to another, the file waits in the tab's session storage, which the browser clears when the tab closes.

None of this is sent anywhere. Clearing the site's data in your browser deletes all of it.

Nothing from other sites

Fonts, styles, scripts and the tutorial video all come from binarybacktrace.com. The site loads nothing from other sites and embeds no videos or maps from them. The search and filter boxes only filter the page; there is no sign-up and no contact form. Links to sources open other sites.

Server log

The web server writes one line per request to its log: the IP address, the time, the address asked for, the page you came from and the browser's user agent. The log stays on the same server and is read only to find faults. Its oldest part is deleted once the log holds 150 MB.
